ABC have cancelled a trio of drama series, with ‘Big Sky’ one of the shows to get the axe.

Joining ‘Big Sky’ on the chopping block are ‘Alaska Daily’ and ‘The Company You Keep’.

‘Big Sky’ tease the return of Jensen Ackles

‘Big Sky’, which is based on C.J. Box’s novel ‘The Highway’ and developed by David E. Kelley, follows a pair of detectives played by Kylie Bunbury (Cassie Dewell) and Katheryn Winnick (Jenny Hoyt).

The pair reunite to investigate a car accident outside of Helena, Montana, but soon discover that there is more to the case than meets the eye.

Also starring in the show were the likes of Reba McEntire, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Ryan Phillippe, John Carrol Lynch, and more. The end of Season 2 also saw Jensen Ackles introduced as Sheriff Beau Arlen, with the Season 3 finale leaving the door open for a return.

“If there’s a contract in place and that’s where they tell me to go, then that’s where I go,” Ackles told Entertainment Weekly.

“But I had a great time there and if that was it, and they end up bringing me back for a couple of episodes just to wrap up my story, or if they bring me back full time or they could easily get rid of me in one fell swoop with Jenny going, ‘Beau left, went back to Houston, and that’s it.’

“Boom, moving on, Season 4. Anything can happen in this industry, and I wouldn’t be surprised by any of it. So I’m prepared for whatever they decide to do.”

‘Alaska Daily’ starred Hilary Swank

As for ‘Alaska Daily’, the show starred Hilary Swank as Eileen Fitzgerald, “a fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist who leaves her high-profile New York life behind after a fall from grace to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.”

The show also starred Jeff Perry as Stanley Cornik, Matt Malloy as Bob Young, Meredith Holzman as Claire Muncy, Grace Dove as Rosalind “Roz” Friendly, Pablo Castelblanco as Gabriel Tovar, Ami Park as Yuna Park, and Craig Frank as Austin Teague.

The drama ran for one season, and was a high-profile show for ABC when it was announced back in 2021 given Swank and creator Tom McCarthy are Oscar winners.
