Charlie Brooker’s satirical anthology series ‘Black Mirror’ is coming back for a sixth season, after leaving fans desperate for more after Season 5 ended in 2019.

A teaser trailer for the impending season has been released, giving fans a taste of what’s to come, promising to be filled with more unpredictable twists and turns than previous seasons, and plenty of big Hollywood names that include Aaron Paul, Salma Hayek, and Michael Cera.

The official ‘Black Mirror’ Twitter account also broke its radio silence for the first time since 2019, asking fans “what have we missed?”

While not breaking away from the similar dystopian themes and sense of unease of earlier seasons, the new season appears to be bringing more violence and more out there storylines than earlier seasons, judging by the teaser trailer.

“I’ve always felt that ‘Black Mirror’ should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself,” Brooker told Netflix’s Tudum.

“Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect,” he further explained.

“Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar ‘Black Mirror’ tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what a ‘Black Mirror’ episode even is.

“The stories are all still tonally ‘Black Mirror’ through-and-through — but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.

Why was there a long break between seasons?

‘Black Mirror’ is known for exploring the darker possibilities of technology, as it grows and becomes more prevalent in everyday life.

Previously, Brooker felt that releasing new episodes during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic would have been insensitive.

“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those,” he told Radio Times back in 2020.

“I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.

When will Season 6 be released?

Per the teaser trailer, ‘Black Mirror’ Season 6 is set to be released exclusively on the Netflix streaming platform sometime in June 2023.
