Warner Bros. has dropped the trailer for its latest DC superhero movie, ‘Blue Beetle’, that shows Latino star Xolo Maridueña receiving the blue beetle robot that transforms him into the Blue Beetle superhero that transport’s him above the earth’s atmosphere in an Iron Man-style suit.

The upcoming film is based on the comic book of the same name. The American superhero film is produced by DC Studios and the Safran Company, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, and the screenplay is written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

‘Blue Beetle’ has a predominantly Latino cast

‘Cobra Kai’ actor Maridueña stars in ‘Blue Beetle’ as Jaime Reyes, who is the third person to receive the blue beetle (and thus become the creature with superhero powers).

He’s A Superhero, Whether He Likes It Or Not #BlueBeetle,” the movie’s official account posted to Twitter. “Only in Theaters August 18.”

The 14th film in the DC Extended Universe features a largely Latino cast, with Jaime’s family members portrayed by George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Belissa Escobedo.

Jaime Reyes’ love interest, Penny, is played by Latina actress Bruna Marquezine, and one of the film’s villains, Carapax, is played by Raoul Trujillo.

‘Blue Beetle’ also sees the likes of Harvey Guillén and Susan Sarandon as the main villain, Victoria Kord.

The ‘Blue Beetle’ trailer

The ‘Blue Beetle’ trailer introduces Xolo Maridueña as Jaime, who goes to a job interview in an elite building and is handed a takeout burger box from someone who appears to work at the building. Jaime seems to recognize the woman.

“Jenny? Jaime asks.

“Guard that with your life” Jenny says. “But do not open it.

Jaime waits until he gets home to open it with his family. When he presents the box, his skeptical sister asks, “You went in there to get us jobs, and all you brought back was a hamburger?”

“Okay, I don’t think it’s a burger,” Jaime retorts.

When he opens the box, the trailer zooms in on the mysterious robotic-looking alien creature called a “scarab” inside.

The scarab immediately latches onto him and infiltrates his body, and Jaime is transformed for the first time into the superhero’s body.
