The highly anticipated third season of the hit Netflix series “Bridgerton” is set to premiere in two parts, with the first installment arriving today, 16 May and the second following on 13 June. Both are releasing on Netflix.

The new season will continue to follow the romantic exploits of the Bridgerton family as they navigate the competitive world of Regency era London’s high society. Season 3 looks to have a focus on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

The two characters have shared plenty of on-screen chemistry and tension, though have yet to become a couple.

What happened in season 1?

The first season of “Bridgerton” centered around the romance between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). Daphne made her debut into society as a “diamond of the first water,” attracting the attention of many eligible bachelors.

However, in the book series, Daphne is not as desired in the Ton as she is in the show. Simon, a notorious rake, pretends to court Daphne to boost her popularity and avoid unwanted attention himself. As they spend more time together, they begin to develop genuine feelings for each other, leading to a passionate romance and eventual marriage.

What happened in season 2?

The second season shifted its focus to the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as he searches for a suitable wife. He sets his sights on Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), who has recently arrived in London with her family from India. However, Anthony’s plans are complicated by the presence of Edwina’s protective older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley), who believes Anthony is unfit for her sister.

Despite their initial dislike for each other, Anthony and Kate find themselves falling in love as they navigate their familial duties and desires. The season culminates in a dramatic moment at Edwina and Anthony’s wedding, where Edwina realizes the truth about their feelings and leaves Anthony at the altar. Kate and Anthony are eventually wedded, while best friends Penelope and Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) fall out over Penelope’s reveal as gossip writer Lady Whistledown.
