BTS member Jimin has broken the record as the most streamed K-pop artist, surpassing his fellow bandmate Jungkook.

Jimin’s single ‘Like Crazy’ became the fastest K-pop single to receive 300 million streams on Spotify since it was released in March, spending four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with Jimin becoming the first Korean solo artist to do so, and surpassing another of his BTS bandmates, RM.

Jimin released his first solo album, ‘Face’ in March, which peaked at the number two position on the Billboard 200 chart.

A successful start to his solo career

Jimin released the first single for his debut solo album titled, ‘Set Me Free Pt. 2′, referring to BTS member Suga’s song ‘Set Me Free’, from his 2020 mixtape ‘D-2′.

“There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide part one or part two,” Jimin said of the song title in an interview with Consequence.

“But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and SUGA’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.”

‘Set Me Free Pt.2′ debuted at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, receiving 6.4 million streams, becoming the first BTS member to receive a top 40 entry on the chart.

The music video was inspired by the movie of the same name

The music video for ‘Like Crazy’ was inspired by the 2011 movie of the same name, directed by Drake Doremus, and starring Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence.

The movie follows the heartbreaking love story of a British exchange student played, Anna Gardner by Felicity Jones, and an American student, Jacob Heim, played by Anton Yelchin who fall in love, until Anna is denied reentry to the United States for overstaying her student visa.

“I tried to express the feelings of that movie,” Jimin said in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“You know, the somewhat complex, somewhat lonely, somewhat happy emotions. I tried to express all these ambiguous and subtle emotions in a slightly sexy way, but I’m not sure how it’ll end up being received by people.”

According to fans, Jimin previously stated that the movie was “one of [his] favorite films” in an interview with Melon Station in 2021.
