Celine Dion cancels ‘Courage’ world tour after diagnosis
The singer took to Instagram to tell fans she won’t be embarking on her world tour.
Celine Dion has announced that she is cancelling her ‘Courage’ world tour as she looks to focus on her health.
The singer expressed her disappointment at cancelling her European dates on Instagram. The news comes after she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022.
“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%,” said Dion.
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again.”
She also told fans that she won’t be giving up, and that she “can’t wait to see” them again. As per her team, tickets will be refunded at the original point of sale.
Stiff person syndrome is a “rare progressive neurological disorder” that can cause stiff muscles in the torso, arms and legs as per the National Institute of Health.
Dion shared her diagnosis last year
Dion shared her diagnosis with fans on Instagram last year, revealing she had been “dealing with problems with [her] health for a long time.”
“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she said, while adding that the condition was what caused the muscle spasms she had been experiencing since 2021.
“Recently I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological syndrome, which affects something like one in a million people.”
She also added: “All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done all my life, and it’s what I love to do the most.”
The cancelled tour was set to be Dion’s first in over a decade. It began in Canada back in September 2019 but was then halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From there, the show has been repeatedly postponed due to Dion’s health issues.
