Christina Applegate says she’s open to voice acting in an animated ‘Married… with Children’ series

Christina Applegate is opening herself to more voice-acting work as her MS diagnosis progresses.

Christina Applegate isn’t letting her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis stop her from acting completely.

The ‘Dead to Me’ actress says she’s shifting her focus to voice acting, including a possible animated series of ‘Married… with Children’.

It was previously announced that an animated series based on the sitcom was in the works last May, where the series was still in the process of being pitched to different networks. ‘Family Guy’ executive producer Alex Carter is signed on as showrunner.

Christina Applegate on the reality of living with MS

“With the disease of MS, it’s never a good day. You just have little s----- days. People are like, ‘Well, why don’t you take more showers?’ Well, because getting in the shower is frightening,” the actress told Vanity Fair.

She spoke about how MS ultimately affects one’s sense of balance, making everyday tasks extremely difficult, and influencing her decision to step back from on-camera acting.

“I can’t even imagine going to set right now. This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working.”

She also spoke about the challenge of filming the last season of ‘Dead to Me’, where Linda Cardellini’s character, Judy, battles cancer, which was filmed at the same time Applegate was diagnosed with MS.

“A lot of the words were really difficult to say and a lot of the scenes were really difficult to do. I had to keep remembering that this is Judy’s disease. It was really hard to not take that on, especially when the words were so cathartic and so right-to-the-bone.

Reuniting with Katey Segal and upcoming ‘Married… With Children’ animated series

Applegate also reunited with Katey Segal on ‘Dead To Me’, who played Judy’s mom. Segal and Applegate previously played mother and daughter on ‘Married… With Children’ over 30 years ago.

“Well, she’s still my Mommy and she always will be my Mommy,” the actress joked. " She raised me, and that is not a flippant thing to say. I spent more time with Katey than I did with my own mom.

On the ‘Married… With Children’ animated series, Applegate says that she and Segal, along with Ed O’Neill, who played Al Bundy, and David Faustino, who played Bud in the original series, are all open to reprising their roles in the animated series.

“I can’t really say much, but all I know is that all four of us are attached to it. It’s not in our hands now, so we’re just kind of waiting.”
