Blockbuster adventure movie ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ secured a major success at the box office this weekend. The film was released on Friday, March 31.

Paramount/eOne’s big budget movie secured the #1 spot, bringing in an impressive $38.5 million domestically and $33 million internationally. Its success beat out previous top-runner ‘John Wick: Chapter Four’, which earned $28.2 million in its second week.

The film is projected to have a long run at the box office. Still, whether ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ will remain on top of ‘John Wick’ and the much-anticipated upcoming ‘The Super Mario Bros Movie’ is yet to be seen.

New ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ film nods to original game

Paramount’s newest blockbuster release is based on the original Hasbro game created in 1974. Pioneering the role-playing gaming genre, ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ is a tabletop fantasy game where players can go on medieval-inspired adventures.

The film has something for everyone: long-time D&D fans and new viewers are all welcome. Co-Directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein captured the essence of the game, mirroring similar types of designs, plot lines, and adventures as in the tabletop version.

Complete with some exciting action sequences and intriguing renditions of magic spell casting, the movie has everything fans of the original game could want.

With Chris Pine playing the lead, the film’s characters also weave together spunky and compatible personalities. The main group’s dynamic is hilariously authentic, largely due to the cast’s passion for bringing the beloved Hasbro game to life.

‘Dungeons & Dragons’ receives high ratings from fans

‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ is already a hit among fans, gaining an impressive audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an A- rating on CinemaScore.

D&D aficionados and movie-goers alike took to social media to show some love for the recent big budget release.
