Ed Sheeran’s surprise Super Bowl performance admission

Over the past few years, Ed Sheeran has become one of the most revered pop singers worldwide, loved by music fans of all ages. The creator of hits like “Perfect” and “Shape of You” has achieved a level of popularity that allows him to fill stadiums wherever he goes, amassing an astonishing 75 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Sheeran shuns Super Bowl solo

However, despite achieving records few can match, the vocalist and songwriter believes there’s one event where he doesn’t envision himself performing. In an interview on Sirius XM with Andy Cohen, the English artist emphasized that he doesn’t see himself performing at Super Bowl halftime shows, at least not alone.

“I don’t have pizzazz,” he said, arguing that his musical style may be better suited to different settings.

“Like, all of these amazing performers [referencing past stars] I’m just not that. I’m not gonna have dancers on stage. I’m not gonna have fireworks and blah, blah. I just can’t, that’s not me. I don’t think that anyone wants to see me do the Super Bowl either.”

However, he doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of participating in the event, stating, “I think the only way I could do it would be by joining someone else.”

Super Bowl Halftime Show draws a crowd

Almost as eagerly anticipated as the Super Bowl final itself is the halftime show, one of the most significant media showcases in the music industry. Artists of the caliber of Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and The Rolling Stones have performed their music during halftime in front of tens of millions of viewers.

In recent years, headline acts have included Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, The Weeknd, and Rihanna – performers known for their explosive stage presence, a quality that Ed Sheeran perhaps feels he lacks.

In fact, as he himself points out, a significant portion of the nearly $10 million budget is allocated to dancers, lighting, and fireworks.
