Everything you need to know about the Ben Affleck directed movie ‘Air’
‘Air’ tells the story of how one of the most iconic pair of shoes was created.
While Ben Affleck may be famous for his acting talent, starring in a number of hit movies, he is also a skilled director and writer, having won several awards as either actor, director, or writer.
‘Air’ is Affleck’s fifth directorial effort, set to be released on Wednesday, April 5, and tells the story of how Nike created their famous pair of shoes, the Air Jordans.

The debut trailer for ‘Air’ was released on February 9, and gives viewers a brief glimpse into the cast of ‘Air’, featuring many familiar faces, and a general look at the plot.
The trailer shows how Sonny Vaccaro, played by Matt Damon, worked to get then-rookie basketball player Michael Jordan to help Nike promote the new pair of shoes in 1984, which would later be dubbed the Air Jordans.
Vaccaro gets the idea after watching a videotape of Jordan playing with incredible skill and decided it just may be what the then-struggling Nike brand needed to revitalize its brand.
What is the plot of ‘Air’?
The movie’s official synopsis is as follows:
“From award-winning director Ben Affleck, AIR reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division, which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand.
This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time.”
Who’s in ‘Air’?
The cast of ‘Air’ includes many familiar faces, including long-time Affleck collaborator and best friend, Matt Damon in the lead role. Affleck plays Phil Knight, CEO of Nike, Inc.
They are joined by Jason Bateman, as Rob Strasser, Nike’s director of marketing, Marlon Wayans as George Raveling, the assistant coach of the U.S. Basketball team at the 1984 Olympics, and Chris Messina as David Falk, Jordan’s agent at the time.
Viola Davis and Julius Tennon will play Deloris Jordan and James R. Jordan Sr., Jordan’s parents.
When will ‘Air’ be released?
‘Air’ will be released in theaters on Wednesday, April 5. The film is being distributed by Amazon Studios in North America, which is also one of the few times the studio has done a theatrical release since the movie ‘Late Night’ in 2019.
As a result, the movie will have a delayed release on Prime Video. No date for when it will appear on Prime Video has been confirmed.
