Ewan McGregor reveals which ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ scene brought him to tears
After reprising his role as the Jedi Master, Ewan McGregor admits he got emotional watching the Disney+ series.
Ewan McGregor has revealed that one particular scene with Vivian Lyra Blair’s Princess Leia in the Disney+ series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ brought him tears.
The project was created for the streaming service, with the first two episodes released on May 27, 2022. The remaining four episodes were released weekly until June 22.
Set 10 years after the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith’, the series saw McGregor reprise his role as the Jedi Master who survived Order 66 and now lives on Tatooine while watching over a young Luke Skywalker.
Kenobi is called into action when he is asked to rescue Leia, and in a new interview with the Disney Studios Awards, McGregor admits a scene with Blair in the final episode made him burst into tears.
“When I saw Episode 6 [of Obi-Wan Kenobi] for the first time, I got to see them down where we show in Manhattan Beach, and I had to go down there, and I went down there, and I watched Episodes 1 to 3,” said McGregor.
“They literally shut me in a room on my own, and I was so impressed. But when I was sitting there, and I watched Episode 6 when I tell [Vivien Lyra Blair’s Leia], ‘May the Force Be With You,’ at the end, I burst into tears.
“I was sitting there. There’s something so moving about it.”
Neeson also brought to tears
McGregor isn’t the first actor to admit to getting choked up because of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’.
Liam Neeson, who reprised his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in a cameo appearance, told Collider that both he and McGregor were brought to tears while rehearsing their reunion scene.
“It was Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan on a camel, a real camel, and me,” said Neeson. “We rehearsed it before we shot it, and we just started crying, and it was lovely.
“That Star Wars that we did, ‘Phantom Menace’, we shot it over 25 years ago. It came out in 1999.”
While there has been no official confirmation on whether another season of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ will be made, McGregor has said he would be happy to play the Jedi Master one more time.
“I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again,” he told the Disney Studio Awards.
In the meantime, Star Wars fans can look forward to the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’, which will hit Disney+ on March 1.
