Miley Cyrus has shown throughout her career that she isn’t afraid to deliver a cover, no matter how famous or successful the original.

The 30-year-old has shown that she can sing with the best of them, and her recent hit ‘Flowers’ has shown that others are now interested in covering Miley’s song as well.

Whether it’s the reinvention of a famous Nine Inch Nails song, or an uplifting version of a Tom Petty classic, Cyrus has pulled off some memorable covers in the past. Here’s a look at some of them.

‘Head like a Hole’ - Nine Inch Nails cover

This song comes from Nine Inch Nails’ debut album, ‘Pretty Hate Machine’. However, the cover version, which appeared on the ‘Black Mirror’ episode ‘Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too’, sees Cyrus give it a radically different sound.

The episode sees Cyrus play an unhappy pop star keen to reinvent her image. Her big single, ‘On a Roll’, is a glamorous reinvention of ‘Head Like a Hole’.

While the melody is the same, Cyrus brings a more sultry and fun sound to what is originally a heavy song.

‘Nothing Else Matters’ - Metallica cover

Cyrus delivered her version of this famous Metallica song at Glastonbury 2019. The song proved to be a huge success, with Miley delivering the perfect bite and snarl as her voice crackles.

‘Wildflowers’ - Tom Petty cover

Cyrus stays true to the Tom Petty’s 1994 track. In her version, she is mindful of each note and each phrase, showing unwavering control of her voice.

She winds her way through the lyrics effortlessly, and her delivery can’t help but stir feelings of peach and hope once you hit play. She makes sure to deliver her voice like only Miley can towards the end of the song.

‘Heart of Glass’ - Blondie cover

Debbie Harry gave this version the seal of approval, and when you listen to the cover version, you can understand why.

Cyrus shows that she can groove on the track, delivering a standout performance at the 2020 iHeartMusic Festival. The singer showed a more glamorous version of herself, but still stomped around in stilettos and a mesh unitard.

‘Zombie’ - Cranberries cover

Cyrus played ‘Zombie’ at the #SOSFest benefit for the National Independent Venue Association.

The song proved to be a hit, with Cyrus adding it to the digital and vinyl edition of her 2020 album ‘Plastic Hearts’.

While the original features Dolores O’Riordan’s cry of pain in what is an Irish protest song, Cyrus’ edition takes a more rugged approach.
