After starring in the musical movie Wonka, actor Timothée Chalamet now returns as Paul Atreides in the science-fiction film Dune: Part Two, which is released worldwide today, Friday 1 March. The follow-up to 2021′s Dune, the picture came out in the United States yesterday, Thursday 29 February.

Dune: Part Two - synopsis

Again based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel Dune, the new movie finds Paul “on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family”, film distributors Warner Bros reveal. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

As the Dune sequel hits cinemas across the world, we take a look at five things that you might not have known about Chalamet:

His first screen role came in Law & Order

Chalamet took his first steps as a screen actor in an episode of the crime drama Law & Order in 2008. Then just 13 years old, he played a murder victim.

He dated Eiza González

In June 2020, Chalamet and the Mexican actor Eiza González surprised everyone when they were snapped on holiday together in Los Cabos, Mexico. Later, the pair were also spotted in each other’s company in Los Angeles. However, several sources played their relationship down as only a “summer romance”.

Chalamet has also dated Lourdes Leon, daughter of pop icon Madonna, and Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Hollywood legend Johnny Depp. The 28-year-old is currently going out with reality star and beauty mogul Kylie Jenner.

He auditioned for Spider-Man

Chalamet went up for the role of Spider-Man in the 2016 superhero movie Captain America: Civil War, but lost out to Tom Holland. The New York native has since revealed that nerves got the better of him during his auditions for the Marvel production.

In 2018, when he was 22, Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor at the 90th Academy Awards, for his performance in Call Me by Your Name. That made him the third-youngest contender for the accolade in Oscars history, behind only Mickey Rooney (nominated as a 19-year-old for Babes in Arms in 1940) and Jackie Cooper (nominated as a nine-year-old for Skipper in 1931).

He loves rap and hip-hop

For a school project as a youngster, Chalamet created the rap alter ego Lil’ Timmy Tim, performing the now-viral track “Statistics. He has also brought his rapping skills to sketches on the comedy show Saturday Night Live.
