Friends co-star Kudrow’s theory on Matthew Perry’s cause of death

Friends actor Perry, who died on Saturday at the age of 54, was found unresponsive in the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles.

Friends actor Perry, who died on Saturday at the age of 54, was found unresponsive in the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles.

A source close to Lisa Kudrow says she and other Friends co-stars believe Matthew Perry may have died after taking medication that reacted badly with the temperature of the water in his hot tub.

“He must have taken something that did not mix”

“Although no one wants to believe it was medication - prescribed or not - of course that is a thought in their minds,” the source said. “They are thinking he must have taken something that did not mix with the warm water.”

Kudrow is “baffled” by Perry’s death, the pal added, concluding: “This does not seem real or fair to her or any of the gang.”

Investigation into Perry death ongoing

Perry, who was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, died on Saturday, having been found unresponsive in the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles, California.

The LA Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the actor’s death. An autopsy has been carried out, but a verdict on how he died has been deferred “pending additional investigation”, according to Los Angeles County records.

No illegal drugs found at scene

Investigators are awaiting the results of a toxicology report, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has told media outlets.

Perry, who was 54, had spoken openly about the addiction issues he suffered during his life - most notably in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

The celebrity news outlet TMZ has reported that law enforcement found anti-depressants at his home, as well as medication for anxiety and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, but that there were no illegal drugs.

The Daily Mail’s source has also revealed that Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay during Friends’ 10-season run, is considering adopting Perry’s dog, Alfred.

Perry and Kudrow starred on the hit NBC sitcom, which ran from 1994 to 2004, alongside co-leads Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
