The new Golden Bachelor: Mel Owens
Mel Owens was a linebacker out of the University of Michigan. He played in the NFL for nine seasons, drafted ninth overall in the 1981 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
Originally from Detroit, Owens was described in a press release as coming from a “close-knit Midwestern family”. When he retired from the NFL, Owens moved to Orange Country, California where he studied law and started a company specializing in sports-related injuries and worker’s compensation.
Now in his 60s, Owens is looking for love...again. He was previously married and had two sons with his ex-wife.
“While life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams,” the press release stated.
The premiere date for season 2 of “The Golden Bachelor” has not yet been set, but it will likely air in the fall like it did last season. The first season of the show aired in 2023, followed by “The Golden Bachelorette” in 2024, with the network appearing to be alternating between the two each year.
