Known for his time on ‘Game of Thrones’, Hafthor Bjornsson suffered a painful injury while trying to beat his personal bench press record over the weekend.

What injury did Hafthor Bjornsson suffer?

The 34-year-old, who played “The Mountain” Ser Gregor Clegane on the hit HBO series and who was the World’s Strongest Man in 2018, recently returned to powerlifting after pursuing boxing during a two-year hiatus.

During his time away from powerlifting, he picked up a win over fellow strongman Eddie Hall and also took shots at WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Unfortunately for Bjornsson, who announced he was making a return to strongman competitions in hopes of breaking records, his comeback suffered a huge setback while trying to bench a personal best 556 pounds during a competition at his gym in Iceland over the weekend.

After lowering the weight to his chest, Bjornsson let out a pulsating scream after a snapping sound was heard.

His spotters quickly stepped in to help him before he sat up, with reports indicating he tore his pectoral muscle off the bone.

Bjornsson updates fans on his condition

‘The Mountain’ shared a picture on Instagram showing his injury, along with providing fans an update on what’s next for him.

On his YouTube channel, Bjornsson explained that he is doing well despite suffering what he described as the worst injury of his career.

“For those who don’t know what’s going on, I injured myself April 15th during my meet in the bench press,” he said on his YouTube Channel.

“I believe I completely tore my chest, upper chest off the bone. I will have to have a surgery if that’s the case. I have an MRI booked tomorrow so I’ll be able update you guys more on what’s happening.

“I’m doing okay considering everything.

“Things are tough, I have to be honest. Things like — hopefully I can make some of you guys laugh now — things like wiping my a– is difficult. I’m left-handed. Putting my underwear on is difficult.”

“It’s life, I have to take this now. I have to figure out how to recover as fast as possible so things aren’t easy but this is just a new journey. This is just a new chapter in my journey.”

“This is literally the biggest injury of my whole career so I got to tackle this.”
