Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady were involved in a high-profile divorce last year, and the Brazilian model is clearing the air when it comes to some rumors about the split.

Was football the reason for Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady’s split?

The couple were married for 13 years before they parted ways last October.

In a statement, Brady wrote that he and Bündchen came to the decision “amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together”, and that they would continue to work together as parents.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Bündchen says that she never gave Brady an ultimatum that, if he continued his career, that their marriage would come to an end, calling it the “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.”

“Listen, I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever. If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me,” said Bündchen.

“I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true. That’s what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart.”

She added that while people speculated football was the cause of their split, it was just a piece of a bigger puzzle.

“People really made it about that,” she said. “What’s been said is one piece of a much bigger puzzle. It’s not so black and white.

“Sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” she added. “When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together.

“As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person.

“It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.”

Bündchen watched Brady’s final game

Brady announced his retirement from the NFL on February 1, 2023. It was the second time he had done so after retiring for 40 days and then returning following the 2021 season.

It came after Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Dallas Cowboys 31-14 in the NFC Wild Card Round. Although Bündchen and Brady no longer together at the time, the model says she tuned in to watch nonetheless.

“It was tough,” she said, “but you know what? Let’s just be honest. It’s a team sport and you can’t play alone. I think he did great under the circumstances that he had. I mean, he had no offensive line.”
