A representative for Halsey confirmed early Saturday that the 28-year-old singer has officially separated from Capitol Records.

They released their first single with Capitol in October 2018 titled ‘Without Me’. The news of them leaving the record label comes a year after Halsey publicly disputed with Capitol on social media.

“After eight great years the decision to leave Capitol is bittersweet, but we are excited about exploring a new partnership and sharing new music with fans,” said Halsey’s managers, Jason Aron and Anthony Li, in a statement.

As of this writing, Halsey has not commented on the separation.

Capitol gives a statement

Capitol Records also released their own statement on the matter.

“Everyone at Capitol poured their hearts and souls into helping Halsey achieve their dream and present their music to the world. We are incredibly proud of all we accomplished together, and wish Halsey the very best in all their future endeavors.”

Halsey’s issues with Capitol

Halsey took to social media in 2022 and claimed that Capitol refused to release her new track ‘So Good’ unless they conducted a TikTok campaign to promote it.

Soon, the single reached DSPs and Capitol issued a compromising statement, but this didn’t resolve the issue.

In May 2022, Halsey took to social media to vent her grievances.

“Basically I have a song that I love that I wanna release ASAP,” they wrote. “But my record label won’t let me.”

Fans quickly turned on Capitol, admonishing the record label for stalling the song’s release.

On May 31, 2022, Capitol announced the song’s release date on social media.

“Halsey, we love you and are here to support you. We are committing to a release of ‘So Good’ on June 9th, 2022… We are an artist-first company that encourages open dialogue.

“We have nothing but a desire to help each one of our artists succeed, and hope that we can continue to have these critical conversations.”

In the coming weeks, Halsey continued to slam the label, but the public discourse eventually calmed down.
