Hilary Duff has admitted that while her hit ‘Come Clean’ may have been the theme song for ‘Laguna Beach’, she never actually watched the show.

‘Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County’, more commonly known as ‘Laguna Beach’, was a reality television series that aired on MTV from 2004 to 2006.

The show followed the personal lives of several students attending Laguna Beach High School, including the likes of Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari.

Although Duff’s song ‘Come Clean’ was the show’s anthem, the 35-year-old says she never watched the show due to the fact she was on the road promoting her music career.

“In a moment in time when you could not record TV shows, I was on tour,” Duff said on the ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’ aftershow. “So, I missed a huge chunk of, like, big things that people talk about that I didn’t get to experience.

“And then my song was the theme song, and I loved that because I lived at MTV for a while.”

When Cohen pressed Duff on whether she got rich from the song being used, the 35-year-old played down those notions.

I definitely didn’t get super rich by them using it as the theme, and I am not going to pretend to know what went on in the background for them to use it,” she said. “But they used it.”

Duff noted that MTV was a fan of her music, as her song ‘Sweet Sixteen’ was used on another of its hit shows, ‘My Super Sweet 16′, which ran for 10 seasons from 2005 to 2017.

“They love me over there,” said Duff. “I don’t know how much money I made from it. I don’t think a lot. But maybe Disney [which owns Hollywood Records] did.”

Duff has shifted to acting

Although Duff has released five studio albums since 2000, the last of which, ‘Metamorphosis’, came out in 2015, the 35-year-old has focused more on her acting in recent years.

She is currently starring in Hulu’s ‘How I Met Your Father’, the spin-off to the CBS series ‘How I Met Your Mother’. The first episode of Season 2 aired on January 24.

Duff plays a woman named Sophie as she tells her son the story of how she met his father. The show recently surprised fans after Neil Patrick Harris made a cameo appearance, reprising his role as Barney Stinson from the original series.
