Three Taylor Swift Eras Tour concerts scheduled to take place in Vienna on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (August 8-10) have been cancelled after police in Austria uncovered a terrorist plot targeting the events.

Who has been arrested in connection to the terrorist attack?

Barracuda Music, an event organizer in the city, posted the following message on Instagram on Wednesday: “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety”.

Two men, who police said had become radicalized online, have been arrested. One, a 19-year-old, had allegedly pledged his allegiance to the terror group IS. Some reports have suggested the search is still ongoing for a third individual connected with the planned attack.

After the news broke, it was initially announced that security would be tightened around the three concerts, although that changed soon after with the revelation they would instead be canceled.

Ernst Happel Stadium sold out for Swift’s Eras Tour

The Ernst Happel Stadium, which hosts Austria national soccer team matches, Austrian cup finals and European fixtures involving Vienna soccer clubs, was due to welcome around 65,000 fans to each of the three concerts, a total of approximately 195,000 people.

Swift’s official website states that “all tickets will be automatically be refunded within the next 10 business days,” reflecting the cancellation.

Will other Eras Tour dates be affected?

There have been no update as to whether future Eras Tour dates could be affected, with the pop superstar next due to perform in London for five nights between Thursday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 20.
