Rapper Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was arrested in Maryland Heights, a suburb outside of St. Louis, Missouri, for possession of a controlled substance.

When he visited Hollywood Casino St. Louis, the establishment reviewed his information and discovered he had an outstanding traffic warrant, per USA Today.

This caused authorities to search the singer, during which they found four ecstasy pills in his possession. He was taken into custody early Wednesday morning, but has since been released by the police.

In 2009, police searched his tour bus during a traffic stop in Texas, and found some marijuana, methamphetamine, as well as a loaded weapon in the vehicle. The hip hop artist did not face drug charges, but he did receive a citation for having controlled substances on his bus.

Nelly had not been entangled in legal issues involving drugs until his recent arrest. He did, however, find himself embroiled in allegations of sexual misconduct.

Nelly charged with second-degree rape

In 2017, then-college student Monique Greene accused him assaulting her on his tour bus, leading to the rapper’s arrest for second-degree rape. He denied the allegations and later filed a countersuit. The two parties eventually reached a mutual settlement, and the charges against Nelly were dismissed.
