How many Grammy Awards has Beyonce won?
We take a look at Beyonce’s lengthy history at the Grammy Awards.
Beyoncé Knowles is no stranger to award shows. This year, the American singer, songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur managed to snag nine Grammy Award nominations.
Between her work as a solo artist and collaborations in Destiny’s Child and The Carters, Knowles has racked up a total of 28 Grammy awards and 88 nominations. However, with this year’s nine nominations, her total of Grammy awards may continue to rise.
A record-breaking winner
With 28 wins Beyonce is currently tied with Quincy Jones for the second most grammy award wins. The record, with 31 awards, is currently held by conductor Georg Solti.
Although Beyonce isn’t the most decorated Grammy award winner of all time, she holds the record for most decorated female Grammy winner. She’s also tied with her husband, Jay-Z, for most Grammy nominations, but outranks him by four for most awards total.
Knowles is also tied with Adele for most Grammys won in a single award show, winning six at the 2010 Grammy Awards for her album ‘I Am... Sasha Fierce’.
That year she took home awards for Song of the Year, Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Female Pop Vocals Performance, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song.
Knowles’ first Grammy award came in 2001 when she and Destiny’s Child won two different awards for the single ‘Say My Name.’ The group took home the awards for Best R&B Performance by a duo or group with Vocals and Best R&B song.
However, since 2000 she has been nominated in at least one category for every annual Grammy Award show. She has also won in at least one category at 14 of the 22 Grammy Shows she has been nominated in.
An impressive winning streak considering she did not release an entire album in every consecutive year following 2000.
Beyonce’s history of Grammy Performances
Knowles isn’t just known for sweeping wins at the Grammy Awards, she has also had some pretty memorable performances at the shows. In 2022, RollingStone ranked Beyonce’s 2017 performance of ‘Love Drought/Sandcastles’ as the third-best Grammy performance of all time.
What makes the nine-minute performance so significant was her use of psychedelic hologram visuals and airy fabrics, leaving viewers unsure of what is really in front of them and what is digitally manufactured onto the stage.
Beyonce shocked the world with this performance because two weeks prior she announced she was pregnant with twins, meaning she was around five months pregnant at the time.
