How many people watched Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski trial?
It looks as though viewers couldn’t get enough of Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski trial.
The numbers are in, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski trial, which was certainly the talk of social media, had no shortage of viewers.
How many people watched Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski trial?
Variety reports that Paltrow’s trial was watched by close to 30 million people across YouTube and social media platforms.
The Law and Crime Network, which streamed the trial live on its YouTube page, was watched by around 16.5 million people.
“This trial performed incredibly well for us across all of our platforms. The interest continued to multiply each day we streamed it on our social live feeds, linear channel and for our video-on-demand,” said president of the Law and Crime Network, Rachel Stockman.
“After the Johnny Depp defamation case, there seems to be a particular fascination with celebrities in court and this pretty simple personal injury case is the perfect example.
“If there hadn’t been a celebrity involved, no one would have cared. To be honest, viewers would have found the details quite uneventful in this civil suit. For this trial, however, we saw just the opposite, with viewers hanging on to every nugget.”
Another 7.4 million watched on Facebook, while 4.2 million took in the trial on TikTok. These numbers don’t include airings on Court TV or the Associated Press’ live feed.
Jury sided with Paltrow
Paltrow was accused of causing a 2016 ski accident that left Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, with broken ribs, a concussion and a traumatic brain injury.
He alleged that Paltrow ran into him from behind on February 26, 2016 while skiing at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort.
The actress denied the allegations and said that it was Sanderson who crashed into her.
In the end the jury sided with Paltrow, who was awarded her symbolic $1 in damages.
Trial provided several viral moments
Over the course of the eight-day event, there were plenty of viral moments that captivated users on social media.
Paltrow was asked if her one dollar request was inspired by Taylor Swift’s previous public groping trial against radio personality David Mueller.
She was later asked if she was “good friends” with the singer.
“I would not say we are ‘good friends,’” Paltrow said under oath. “We are friendly. I’ve taken my kids to one of her concerts before, but we don’t talk very often.”
The actress also made headlines with her response when asked about the losses she suffered from the accident.
Her response? “Well, we lost half a day of skiing.”
Paltrow also took time to whisper something to Sanderson that wasn’t picked up by the microphones as she left the courtroom following the verdict.
