Jon Jones looked like he didn’t lose a step after ending a three-year sabbatical at Saturday’s UFC 285 in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The 35-year-old, who moved up to UFC’s highest weight class, wasted no time in winning the heavyweight belt with a first-round submission over Ciryl Gane at the 2:04 mark.

Drake wins big thanks to Jones’ triumph

Not only did the event mark Jones’ return to the UFC, it also proved to be quite the profitable event for rapper Drake as well.

Prior to the fight, Drake took to Instagram and shared with his 132 million followers that he was betting on the main event.

Drake shared a couple of screenshots which showed he had placed $250,000 on two separate bets; one on Jones to win by submission and one for him to win by KO.

Thanks to Jones’ three-minute submission of Gane, Drake took home a cool $1.7 million. The result netted Drake the most money from the two bets, as he would have only banked $1.3 million if Jones had won the belt by KO.

Drake isn’t shy when it comes to betting

It isn’t the first time Drake has shared his sizeable betting wagers on social media ahead of major events.

Just last week he bet $400,000 on YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul to beat Tommy Fury. Unfortunately for Drake, Fury came out on top via a split decision.

This prompted Paul to comment on Drake’s massive wager after the fight, joking that the ‘Drake Curse’ cost him the fight.

“F***! This is Drake’s fault!” Paul said, laughing. “Drake, bro, why did you do this to me?”

“No, it’s my fault, $400,000 is nothing to him - he has won a lot more money betting on me before. He’s probably about even now. Sorry, Drake, I’ll get that W in the rematch.”

The ‘Drake Curse’ is one of the internet’s biggest memes and refers to sporting stars or teams losing after having an interaction with the famous rapper.

In March 2022, Drake lost $250,000 after betting that Jorge Masvidal would beat Colby Covington at UFC 272, and his bad luck continued when Justin Gaethje defeated Charles Oliveira later that night.

In November 2022 he placed a $2 million bet on Israel Adesanya to win at UFC 281 over Alex Pereira, only for Pereira to win in the fourth round via knockout.

However, he did win $1 million when Israel Adesanya defeated Jared Connonier at UFC 276, and just last month, he won a total of $1.477 thanks to various Super Bowl bets.
