Jimmy Fallon, who has been accused of creating a toxic environment behind the scenes at The Tonight Show, is widely reported to earn $16 million as host of the primetime NBC programme.

Fallon, 48, has anchored the iconic chat show for nearly a decade, having taken over from legendary host Jay Leno in February 2014.

According to the website Celebrity Net Worth, which specialises in calculating the stars’ wealth, Fallon’s Tonight Show pay packet has helped him to amass an overall fortune of around $60 million.

Fallon apologises to Tonight Show employees

The former Saturday Night Live comedian has reportedly said sorry to colleagues after current and former Tonight Show staffers interviewed by Rolling Stone spoke out against his “erratic” workplace behaviour.

In an in-depth investigation published by the magazine on Thursday, one former Tonight Show employee told journalist Krystie Lee Yandoli: “You never knew which Jimmy we were going to get and when he was going to throw a hissy fit.”

According to a follow-up report by Rolling Stone, Fallon apologised to Tonight Show employees on a Zoom call on Thursday evening.

“I feel so bad I can’t even tell you”

It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad,” Fallon is reported to have said. “Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends… I feel so bad I can’t even tell you.” He is also said to have told Tonight Show employees that he did not intend to “create that type of atmosphere for the show”.

I want the show to be fun, [it] should be inclusive to everybody,” Fallon insisted to his colleagues, per Rolling Stone. “It should be the best show.”

In a statement, NBC said: “We are incredibly proud of The Tonight Show, and providing a respectful working environment is a top priority. As in any workplace, we have had employees raise issues; those have been investigated and action has been taken where appropriate.

“As is always the case, we encourage employees who feel they have experienced or observed behavior inconsistent with our policies to report their concerns so that we may address them accordingly.”
