It’s not Top Gun or Rain Man! This Mission: Impossible star named her favorite Tom Cruise movie and it’s a classic
Hayley Atwell spoke to the press ahead of the release of ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ and revealed her favorite film from the iconic actor.
‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ was officially released in the United States last weekend, the eighth installment of the wildly successful movie franchise.
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, joined by Hayley Atwell as part of a large ensemble cast. Atwell also worked alongside Cruise on the 2023 film ‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning’ and was thrilled to return to work alongside Cruise again.
Ahead of the release of the latest film, Atwell and her other co-stars spoke to Letterboxd about the upcoming movie. They were asked for their favorite films starring Com Cruise and Atwell had a curveball answer for reporters.
“I watched ‘Jerry Maguire’ the other day, and I loved the moments of awkwardness and vulnerability in him in that movie," Atwell said. “For someone who is so emotionally articulate in real life, how, sort of, emotionally constipated his character becomes at times in that movie, it’s such a beautiful study.”
She continued: “His range, I think, is underrated because he is so loved and known now for these action films.”
It may not be the most well-known of Cruise’s long back catalog but she wasn’t the only one to suggest the iconic sports movie.
“He should have won an Oscar for ‘Jerry Maguire’‚" Pegg declared. “Tom plays vulnerability so well. He’s a beautiful loser in ‘Jerry Maguire’, you know? And I think it’s a superb performance.”
Despite his hugely successful career, Tom Cruise has never won an Academy Award. He has received four nominations for an Oscar but never won, however he has picked up three Golden Globe awards. His films have grossed more than $12 billion worldwide.
