Jenna Ortega talks about getting to punch Courteney Cox in new ‘Scream VI’ movie
The ‘Wednesday’ star says the upcoming ‘Scream VI’ scene was ‘A Long Time Coming’
While speaking with ET Canada’s Morgan Hoffman, the ‘Scream VI’ star Jenna Ortega opens up about getting to punch Courteney Cox on screen in the new sequel.
According to the star, the scene happens early on in the film with Ortega’s character, Tara, snapping on Cox’s character, the iconic reporter Gale Weathers.
“That was a long time coming, I’ll tell ya,” the actress joked. “Me and Courteney, just the entire time were [laughing].”
Ortega goes on to say, “That was actually improvised. That was an incredible experience. And I feel like the way that was scripted, and the way that that went down was really epic.”
The actress alongside co-star Melissa Barrera then talked about on-set jokes. The two tried guessing how many times their characters stabbed the villain Ghostface in the movie.
“Oh, God. I think it would be in the fifties,” Barrera laughed.
“Yeah, we tried to count at some point,” Ortega explained.
Barrera continues, “It’s ridiculous because I know that this movie starts, and I say I stabbed him 22 times, right? So, like, we counted the ones in the last movie, and I know they wanted more in this one, so they just let me go for it. I had shoulder pain after that day. I’m not going to lie.”
What we know about the upcoming sequel
After a year the Scream franchise is back on the big screen and this time in New York City. The official plot synopsis reads, “Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City. However, they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when a new killer embarks on a bloody rampage.”
Returning characters
This movie brings back Hayden Panettiere’s character, Kirby, after a 12-year hiatus since her last film appearance in ‘Scream 4.’ Panettiere won’t be the only returning cast member, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega will all have roles in the upcoming reboot.
Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Randy’s niece, and Chad’s twin Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, Randy’s nephew and Mindy’s twin will also be returning to the franchise.
