Three straight Champions League semifinals under Luis Enrique have put Paris Saint-Germain’s coach on a pedestal, after the Asturian manager spoke to the media at Anfield following a 2-0 win over Liverpool in another game that adds a new chapter to the Parisian club’s European history. The Gijón-born coach did not want to commit himself and said he would watch Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid with a beer in hand.

“Every time I say I’d rather face one team in the Champions League, we end up getting the other one. Tomorrow I want to watch the Bayern and Real Madrid game in Paris, nice and calmly, with a beer. We’re going to enjoy the quarterfinals and see who our opponent will be,” he said when asked which side he would prefer to face in the Champions League semifinals.

He also added: “Today we played the way we had to play. We were more direct when there was space. I think we can talk about an incredible game and a team that is still the champion of Europe and wants to reach the next round. The injured players (Mendes and Doué)? I’m not a doctor, so I can’t tell you whether it’s nothing serious. It’s normal that, with this intensity and this type of game, there are issues. We’ll wait until tomorrow for the tests and know exactly what they have.”

After winning 2-0 at Anfield, PSG reached the Champions League semifinals for the third straight season under Luis Enrique, who since arriving in Paris has changed the history of a club that once seemed cursed in Europe. Waiting in the next round will be either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, who will battle for a place in the semifinals this Wednesday at the Allianz Arena after Bayern’s 2-1 win in the first leg.
