Jenna Ortega tells fans what she really thinks about Hollywood
The ‘Wednesday’ star calls out Hollywood bosses for stereotyping teenagers as vapid.
Jenna Ortega spoke her true mind over hot wings on Thursday, as the ‘Wednesday’ actress joined Sean Evans on ‘Hot Ones’ for some hot topics over hot wings. Ortega has played many roles as a teenager before, and in her estimation, the roles are generally stereotyped versions of a teenager, lacking real substance.
The 20-year-old actress, in showbiz for more than a decade, plays a high schooler on the hit Netflix series, ‘Wednesday’, a modern spinoff of the ‘90s classic, ‘The Addams family’, a comedy where a hilariously ghastly family gets up to strange antics.
Hot wings, hot topics
During the famed talk show Thursday evening, Evans and Ortega discussed a wide range of topics, including her many roles when she was cast as a teenager.
When the topic led to the young generation, dubbed ‘Gen Z’, Evans asked 20-year-old Ortega, who often gets cast as a teenager because she looks “a bit younger”, what her thoughts are on the typical teenage stereotype Hollywood promotes where they are portrayed as clueless and lacking in substance.
“It’s always the bratty teen, bad mouth teen, or a lot of times unintelligent, which I don’t think is true, " Ortega said, “I wish that they were given a bit more credit.”
“We can be smart sometimes,” Ortega added as she worked her way through the pile of wings, commenting that a lot of Hollywood bosses are “out of touch”.
Jenna Ortega’s starring roles playing a teenager
Ortega was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work on the popular Netflix series, ‘Wednesday’ in which she plays Wednesday, the teenage daughter of the Addams family who goes to high school for the first time.
Before she took on the starring role in the Netflix show, Ortega played the lead role in Disney Channel’s 2016 to 2018 show, ‘Stuck in the Middle’. Ortega played Harley Diaz, again in the role of a misfit teenager.
Jenna Ortega appeared in the remake of the teen movie, ‘Scream’, and will also be in ‘Scream VI’, to be released in March. The film co-stars Hayden Panettiere, Melissa Barreras, and veteran ‘Scream’-er, Courteney Cox.
