Jennifer Lopez impressed with Ben Affleck’s Spanish speaking skills

Jennifer Lopez noted that Ben Affleck “really loves speaking Spanish” while out promoting her latest film.

While some fans may be surprised to know that Ben Affleck is fluent in Spanish, his wife Jennifer Lopez had nothing but praise for his abilities.

The actor spent time in Mexico during his childhood, and remains well-practiced in the language. He’s been open about picking up Spanish as a second language during his time in Mexico shooting a television series while a teenager.

While speaking with ‘Access Hollywood’ while promoting her new film, ‘The Mother’, Lopez admits even she is impressed by Affleck’s Spanish speaking abilities.

“Yeah, really great Spanish,” said Lopez. “He spent time in Mexico when he was a kid, and so, he loves the culture, and he loves the people, and he loves speaking Spanish.

“He learned it then, and he’s kind of kept it up his whole life and really loves speaking Spanish.

“I get very self-conscious, because I didn’t grow up in Puerto Rico, you know what I mean? I speak Spanish, and I know Spanish. I know Spanish well, but I still get self-conscious – not him!”

Affleck spoke Spanish while promoting ‘Air’

Many fans were caught off guard when a video of Affleck speaking Spanish to La Cadena SER while promoting his latest film, ‘Air’, went viral.

Affleck talked about the process behind creating the story and his casting choices for the film.

The video, which has over 236,000 likes and over 6,000 comments, left many fans impressed, with one fan writing: “The switch from Ben to Benito.”

Another wrote, “Affleck angling to be called Benito with the recent vacancy”, in reference to Bad Bunny and the discontent of his Latino fan base with regards to the rumors he’s dating Kendall Jenner.

Affleck spoke about his Spanish speaking abilities when he visited ‘The Kelly Clarkson’ show back in 2020.

Although he said he spoke the language passively, he noted that his 17-year-old Violet was close to surpassing him.

“She’s always been a very good student, and she’s been interested in Spanish, and so I would often help her,” said Affleck. “Now, all of a sudden, she’s gotten into the grade where she’s, like, in the harder Spanish classes, and she’s getting better.”

“She’s right at the point where I think she might be passing me.”
