Kanye West registers trademark for his ‘sock shoes’ design

Ye is investing in a new ultra-casual footwear business.

Kanye West has registered for an official US trademark for his new footwear product.

The rapper and entrepreneur has called them ‘YZY SOCK SHOES’.

Kanye West’s new kicks

West is jumping back into the fashion market with a brand new creation, as a Twitter post reveals his recent trademark application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The 45-year-old’s company, Ye’s Mascotte Holdings Inc., has registered a new name: YZY SOCK SHOES.

Yeezy is the name of the firm under which it sells its products, with ‘sock shoes’ added to specify the new line.

Ye’s “leather-soled socks”

The application defines the footwear as “leather-soled socks”.

A Twitter user by the name of Josh Gerben posted a photo of West’s application file.

“Kanye West has filed a new trademark application for: ‘YZY SOCK SHOES,” Gerben wrote in the caption. “The filing claims that Kanye intends to sell ‘socks with leather soles’.”

Long-time running

It is still unclear when the sock shoes will hit the market, as the rapper’s recent break with Adidas may have affected what kind of infrastructure he has necessary for these new ‘socks-shoes’ to enter the market, as well as the publicity that this would require.

However, as per TMZ, Ye has been seen wearing similar kicks since 2019, which may have been the prototypes, so fans have already had exposure to the design.

Adidas announced in May that the company’s plan was still to try to sell the remaining Yeezy shoes it still has in stock, despite the split.

The value of the shoes are worth a reported 1 billion dollars — of which sales West would get 15% of sales.
