Katy Perry eyeing ‘American Idol’ exit?
It looks as though Katy Perry isn’t pleased with how she is being portrayed on the show.
Katy Perry’s run as a judge on ‘American Idol’ may be nearing an end with news that she wants to leave the show.
According to the Daily Mail, the 38-year-old feels as though she has been misrepresented by the program.
The report suggests that Perry feels she has been repeatedly “thrown under the bus by producers”, and that she feels she has been edited so that she is portrayed as the “nasty judge.”
Perry and her time on ‘American Idol’
Perry has been on ‘American Idol’ for the last six seasons, but her time on the show has generated plenty of criticism from fans over the last few months.
She was accused of “mom-shaming” contestant Sara Beth Liebe, a 25-year-old mother of three.
“If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out,” Liebe said during her audition, which aired on March 5, to which Perry, 38, replied, “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
Fans were quick to voice their displeasure on social media, with Liebe sharing that she felt hurt and embarrassed during her appearance.
“There was a joke that was made that’s gotten a lot of attention, and I’ve gotten a lot of people reaching out to me asking how I’m feeling,” she said in a TikTok video.
“It was embarrassing to have that on TV, and it was hurtful. I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom-shaming is super lame and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman.”
Perry was also booed in April when she criticized contestant Nutsa Buzaladze’s outfit.
“Nutsa, every time you take the stage it’s like you glitter bomb the stage,” she said. “Listen, one thing that I would like to see from you is not one piece of glitter the next time. I know that is going to be hard.”
Later that month, Perry found herself facing more backlash after she was accused of being disrespectful towards a singer following the elimination of her favourite contestant, Elijah McCormick.
