Katy Perry to be replaced on American Idol
Katy Perry will be temporarily leaving American Idol, along with Lionel Richie.
American singing competition show American Idol will be saying goodbye to long-time judge Katy Perry for the next few months. She has been on the show since its 16th season in 2018.
Perry will be performing across the pond at King Charles’ coronation, which takes place on Saturday, May 6. Lionel Richie, her fellow judge on American Idol, will also be performing.
Perry is an ambassador of the British Asian Trust, a charity founded by King Charles back in 2020, and Richie was the first-ever global ambassador of another one of Charles III’s charities, the Prince’s Trust.
“I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert, and helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking,” Perry said in support of the charity.
“So I’m also an ambassador for UNICEF, and it really aligned with my values. That’s mostly why I’m going, to be an ambassador and to say, ‘Hey, this is me from the USA.’ No, but it’s so cool.”
Who will replace Katy Perry on American Idol?
Both Perry and Richie will be replaced by other Hollywood stars, though names have not yet been released. In a statement from Luke Bryan, another American Idol judge, he hinted that the replacements were big names in the industry.
“The people that we have filling in, contestants have used their songs many, many times – a lot more than mine!” Bryan told Entertainment Tonight. The country singer could not say much more about the replacements before the official announcement.
“You’ll just have to tune in and wait and see,” said Perry in a previous interview.
“The hologram is finally real!”
King Charles Coronation performers
With King Charles III’s coronation fast approaching, many are excited for the celebratory concerts scheduled for 8 pm this Saturday.
Along with Perry and Lionel, boyband Take That, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Welsh artist Bryn Terfel, and singer-songwriter Freya Ridings will also be performing at the coronation.
King Charles reportedly personally requested Adele and Ed Sheeran, both of whom declined the offer. Harry Styles also turned it down due to scheduling conflicts with his tour, and both Elton John and Kylie Minogue declined as well.
