Lizzo and SZA team up for ‘Special’ remix
Lizzo initially hinted that she was working with SZA back in November and their remix is finally here.
Just a week after Lizzo took home the Grammy Award for Record of the year, she teamed up with fellow Grammy winner SZA for a new remixed version of her song ‘Special.’
Lizzo originally hinted she was working with SZA in November on Twitter. The artist shared a video snippet of the now-released remix playing with the caption, “Something Special coming your way soon… 👀 @sza”
Just yesterday Lizzo officially announced the remix would be released today with an Instagram story post revealing an alternative album cover featuring the two of them.
The collaboration was also featured in Lizzo’s Live in Concert HBO MAX special, where the duo performed the new track on stage in November 2022 for the lucky audience in attendance at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
On January 3, Lizzo shared a clip of their performance on Instagram with the caption: “My actual sister. I could cry thinking about you right now. Nothing could make special more special than you @sza”
The full performance was released on HBO Max on New Year’s Eve.
Both artists have a song titled ‘Special’ from their latest album. However, the remix uses Lizzo’s track which is also the title of her latest album, ‘Special.’
The Duo’s Friendship
SZA has also commented on the two’s friendship. In a Rolling Stone Music Now Podcast, she hinted that they were working together and having fun.
“We just have so much fun together. And I feel like she gets me. She’s another person who has hella music tastes and doesn’t fit in anybody’s box of anything,” she explained.
The ‘Kill Bill’ singer added: “She makes it seem like she doesn’t even care, like she just does whatever she wants. And I just love being with her, just as a friend and hanging out. So whenever she comes to a studio, I just feel like, ‘Let’s drop into some bullsh–.’”
Earlier this week, Lizzo performed the original track ‘Special’ at the 2023 Grammy Awards, where she received five nominations taking home one win for her single “About Damn Time.”
