Mark Hamill reveals his favorite Luke Skywalker ‘Star Wars’ quote
The Star Wars actor revealed his favourite line by the character.
After almost half a century flying round a galaxy far, far away, Mark Hamill has revealed which Star Wars line means the most to him. Hamill, best known for playing the intergalactic hero Luke Skywalker, was speaking an interview with ScreenRant‘s Ash Crossan for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which is not a Star Wars spin-off.
The actor was actually asked about the most iconic line spoken by any of the characters he has played over the years, and unsurprisingly took to Star Wars for his answer.
Among the countless iconic lines in Star Wars geek-lore, Hamill says his favourite is “I have a very bad feeling about this.”
First spoken by his character in the original 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope as he approached the Death Star, the line has become a recurring touchstone across the franchise’s films and shows.
“I have a very bad feeling about this!”
“My favourite from the space movies was, ‘I have a very bad feeling about this,’” he said, adding “and they gave it to a character in every movie—somebody else said it!
The prequel trilogy made a point of keeping the tradition alive. Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Ewan McGregor, delivers the line in The Phantom Menace in 1999; it returns again in Attack of the Clones in 2002, this time through Anakin Skywalker, portrayed by Hayden Christensen, before Obi-Wan repeats it once more in Revenge of the Sith in 2005. By the end of the prequels, the phrase had become a familiar and almost expected part of the experience, and a true easter egg for fans.
When Disney revived the franchise with the sequel trilogy, the tradition continued, though with slight variations. Han Solo uses the line in The Force Awakens in 2015, while in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, it is Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams, who says the line.

Not every modern Star Wars film uses the line in a straightforward way. Rogue One takes a more playful approach: the droid K-2SO, voiced by Alan Tudyk, begins to say, “I’ve got a bad feeling,” only to be cut off mid-sentence.
