Mel Gibson devastated at loss of LA home in fires, before remembering one key fact
The award-winning actor has spoken out about how he experienced the destruction of his property in Malibu as the fires spread.
The raging wildfire in Los Angeles continues to transform the City of Angels into a blazing inferno, engulfing over 14,000 acres and reducing 10,000 homes to ashes. More than 180,000 people have been evacuated, and tragically, 10 lives have been confirmed lost. The Kenneth Fire, which ignited in the hills near Calabasas, swiftly spread to Pacific Palisades, a western neighborhood renowned for its array of Hollywood celebrities, including actor Mel Gibson.
From Gibson’s residence, only the charred and blackened foundations remain, as confirmed by the actor to Elizabeth Vargas on News Nation. Comparing the devastation in Los Angeles to the Allied bombing of Dresden during World War II, Gibson remains cautiously optimistic despite the tragedy.
“I had a lot of personal stuff there that, you know, I can’t recover... All kinds of things, from photographs to files and personal items I’ve had over the years, and clothes, really cool stuff, but you know, all that can be replaced,” he stated, visibly shaken. His demeanor shifted as he realized that what truly matters remains unharmed: “My family members and loved ones are okay, and we’re all happy, healthy, and safe.”
A moment on The Joe Rogan Experience
Gibson’s way of processing the wildfire caught viewers' attention.
“I was doing the Rogan podcast [The Joe Rogan Experience]... And I was feeling a bit down while we were talking because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I wondered if my house was still there. But when I arrived, indeed, it wasn’t there,” he confessed.
The controversial podcast hosted by comedian Rogan gained significant media attention during the COVID-19 pandemic for his stance on vaccinations.
Since then, Rogan’s popularity has skyrocketed. It’s amazing how many people can be sucked into conspiracy theories and arguments with little evidence. His podcast has featured a variety of high-profile guests to push this type of content, including Elon Musk to Donald Trump. Addressing the wildfire on News Nation, Gibson made an ironically optimistic remark: “I went home and told myself, well, at least I don’t have any of those annoying plumbing problems anymore.”
