After winning her first Oscar back in March for Best Actress in ‘Everything, Everywhere, All at Once’, Michelle Yeoh isn’t stopping there in her quest to “take risks”, as she says.

“I also finally got to bring the Oscar home to my mother in Malaysia, which she appreciated, and I’ve been spending some much-needed time with my wonderful family,” Yeoh added of her travels in the two months since the Academy Awards.

The actress has been spotted recently on the set of the ‘Wicked’ movie in Buckingham, England.

“I’m trying something new right now — filming Jon Chu’s ‘Wicked’ movie, which will be my first musical,” Yeoh said during the Fifth Annual Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival in Japan.

Michelle Yeoh will play Madame Morrible alongside co-stars Ariana Grande, Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo, Elphaba.

“It’s very exciting, and I can’t wait for you all to see it. It was a risk, but you will never know which doors will open for you unless you try them all.”

“I went in thinking this is going to be so scary — they’re going to recast me when they hear me,” Yeoh admitted to Variety in February of her first time singing in a film. “But I am having so much fun.”

“As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years,” Chu said in an open letter posted on Instagram.

It seems ‘Wicked’ will be filmed in two parts, the first part coming out in December 2024.

“So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but TWO!!!! With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”
