Actresses Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, the original ‘Mean Girls’ all agreed to return for the movie’s reboot, but now talks of production are allegedly stalled due to Paramount’s “disrespectful” money offer.

The original 2004 teen comedy-drama stars have remained friends since the film and were willing to return for the new film, which is described as bringing the Broadway musical version of “Mean Girls” back into a Paramount Pictures film.

“Paramount Pictures doesn’t want to pay the girls what they are worth,” said a highly placed production source for Page Six. “All four girls were willing to come back, but Paramount has not been respectful of what they are worth.”

The source also claims that McAdams, who originally played queen bee, Regina George, was initially offered a larger part to play than the other three girls, but the deal has yet to be signed off on.

“As of now, the negotiations are stalled.” said the source.

Comedian and Actress Tina Fey, who wrote both the musical and movie, will be returning to her role as the math teacher, Ms. Norbury. She reportedly has a seven-figure deal for her acting, writing, and producing roles in the reboot.

However, a source tells Page Six that Lohan, McAdams, Seyfried, and Chabert were offered “a fraction” of that.

While Fey and Tim Meadows, who played the school’s principal, were begged to return to their roles, there’s no word on whether Amy Poehler who played Regina’s mom will also return to the film.

Different roles in the reboot

After the musical reboot was announced in 2020, it has since been learned that Lohan, McAdams, Seyfriend, and Chabert would take on different roles than their original ‘Mean Girls’ roles.

New Actors will be incorporated into the original iconic roles. Angourie Rice will take over Cady from Lohan, Reneé Rapp will play Regina George (McAdams), and Auli’i Cravalho will play Janis, the outsider role that Lizzy Caplan originally played.

“Whether they appear in a cameo appearance or they have six pages of script, it doesn’t matter… [the money offered] is disrespectful,” the source told Page Six.

However, official statements from the original actresses’ reps have yet to be made. A rep for Tina Fey also declined to comment after Page Six reached out.

Work since ‘Mean Girls’

Lohan has recently made her comeback into Hollywood by starring in the top-rated Netflix holiday movie, ‘Falling for Christmas.’ While Seyfried has recently secured a Golden Globe and Emmy Award for her role as disgraced tech CEO Elizabeth Holmes in the Hulu miniseries ‘The Dropout.’

Chabert meanwhile has had numerous roles in Hallmark movies. McAdams has appeared in several box office hits since the original ‘Mean Girls’ movie, including ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.
