King Charles’ coronation will take place on May 6, and we now know what role his son, Prince William, will have at the event.

What role will Prince William have at the coronation?

According to the Liturgy of the Coronation Service, the Prince of Wales will step forward and pledge his loyalty and allegiance to the King during the historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

He will then kneel before his father, after he is officially crowned, and place his hand between the King’s and recite the words known as the Homage of Royal Blood.

“I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God,” are the words William will say.

They echo the vow that his late grandfather Prince Philip made to his wife Queen Elizabeth back in 1953 when he committed to being her “liege man of life and limb.”

He is the only royal listed as honoring the king in this way during the ceremony, with Prince Harry not listed as having a role.

William will also appear as the Stole Royal (from an ancient Greek word meaning “scarf”) and Robe Royal are brought to the King. William will also be on hand to assist Baroness Merron and bishops in putting the robe on the king.

Prince George will also have a role

Prince George, William and Kate Middleton’s oldest son, will also play a role in the coronation.

The nine-year-old will serve as Page of Honor to King Charles at the crowning ceremony.

His role marks the first time in modern history that a royal who will be a future monarch will take part in the service.

“We’re all very excited about Prince George’s role in the Coronation. It will be an incredibly special moment,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson told ET.

George is the youngest future king to have a role in the ceremony. He is second in line to the throne.
