Robert Pattinson is back in the spotlight — and ‘Primetime’ may be his boldest role yet
Pattinson steps into the shoes of a journalist who changed TV in ‘Primetime’, the new A24 drama inspired by a real show and presented with its first trailer.
Anyone who thought Robert Pattinson’s career would fade after the Twilight saga might want to dust off their crystal ball. Not only did that prediction age poorly — Pattinson has become one of the most in‑demand actors working today.
This weekend he premieres the controversial film The Drama, he’ll appear in The Odyssey this summer, and before the year ends he’ll return to theaters with Primetime, whose first trailer just dropped.
In Primetime, Pattinson steps into the shoes of Chris Hansen, the well‑known host of NBC’s early‑2000s investigative series To Catch a Predator. The show, which aired from 2004 to 2007, staged sting operations in which Hansen and his team posed as minors online, confronted alleged predators with hidden cameras, and questioned them before police moved in.
Despite its popularity — and Hansen’s reputation for exposing criminals — the series was highly controversial. Many viewers questioned the ethics of its methods, and the blurry line between entertainment and true crime fueled constant debate.
The film’s official synopsis sets the tone: “A journalist dives into a criminal underworld and changes television forever. Inspired by NBC’s early‑2000s To Catch a Predator, hosted by Chris Hansen.”
Produced by A24 and directed by Lance Oppenheim, the movie also stars Skyler Gisondo (Superman), Merritt Wever (Signs), and Matthew Maher (Captain Marvel).
Primetime is slated for a September release — with the exact date still to be announced — meaning Pattinson will dominate the conversation well into the fall.
