Update:

Sarah Silverman has not necessarily been short on work and over the years has made a name for herself as an actress and comedian. She has appeared in numerous TV shows and movies and even had her own program.

However, in an interview with Howard Stern she revealed that there were a few opportunities that passed her by because as she told the radio talk show host, “I have terrible instincts.”

The roles that could’ve been for Sarah Silverman

Stern started off asking Silverman about her acting career saying: “You kind of blew off a big opportunity,” and made a reference to Madmen. The comedian recalled how she was friends with Jon Hamm at the time, who had played a cable guy on the Sarah Silverman Program.

Hamm told her about a pilot he was doing on AMC and that she should do an audition. However, Silverman shared how, while laughing at the idea told him, “Uh, I’m not gonna audition for a pilot on AMC… that’s that old movie channel.”

“I’ve got my own show on Comedy Central,” she added.

Silverman passed over being in one of her favorite movies

Silverman went on to share a couple of other times that scripts came her way like for ‘Brides Maids’ which came out in 2011. Although she wasn’t offered a part, she recalled thinking “F--- this! Oooh, I’m a bride’s maid,” Silverman said in a mocking way.

However, Silverman admitted that she’s seen the movie more than a dozen times and it’s one of her favorites.

Does she regret not trying to get the part? “I don’t watch Brides Maids and go ‘I should’ve played this part or this part,’ I just watch and I love it,” she explained. “I die laughing every time.”

She could’ve been one of the ‘Friends’

Silverman also recounted how when she was first getting going in her career the script for the pilot of ‘Friends’ was floating around. “I heard that you were offered something in Friends,” Stern asked.

“100% no,” Silverman replied. “I was younger… I remember the script going around and crying laughing at how dumb the title was,” she shared.

Stern then inquired if that’s a problem, as a smart comedian being “almost too hip for the room and that everything is too silly and stupid?”

While she didn’t answer the question, she did say that all of these “could’ve beens” ended up being her favorite things.
