Fresh off being honored with the Equal Play Award at the 2023 CMT Awards, Shania Twain wouldn’t rule out collaborating with the woman who presented her the honor.

Twain and Megan Thee Stallion to work together?

Megan Thee Stallion presented the 57-year-old with the award, and speaking with ET backstage, Twain shared her admiration for the rapper.

“I love her... What a sweetheart!” said Twain. “We were sitting together in the audience. We really gelled very well, I really love her as a person.

“She is a great talent, I was just glad she didn’t ask me to twerk out there. I would had to have said no. She was amazing and said so many sweet things and I was really flattered she was there for me.”

When asked if she would consider working with Megan on a song, Twain wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

“I think that that would really work... I love her whole mind,” she added.

As for what the Equal Play Award means to her, Twain told Billboard that the honor meant a great deal to her given what it represents.

“I take the award very personally. To me, it’s an emotional journey right now to be in this genre and watching all these other women, women, in general, struggling for space,” Twain said.

It’s very frustrating and sad, and I want to fight for them, I want to talk about it and bring it up to the forefront and change it. It’s not right, it’s not what country music represents.

Country music represents family and inclusion, and the neighborly welcoming spirit that country music people have always embraced is not present with such an imbalance in play. So something’s wrong there.”

Twain hits back at critics of her CMT outfit

Twain looked dazzling at the 2023 CMT Awards, wearing a purple, kitted crop top and shorts with a black hat and leather boots.

Her second outfit was a black and red dress with a slit in the leg that was completed with a pair of black high heels.

Although she received some messages on social media from people telling her she needed a different “stylist” and that they didn’t “recognise her”, Twain defended her choices by posting an Instagram carousel of her outfits on Instagram.

“For me fashion is a powerful tool that helps to convey my personality and express my creativity and other than getting to hang out with my friends for the night, it’s one of my favourite things about attending award shows!” the singer captioned her post.

“Life is too short to wear boring clothes!! 😘”
