Shannen Doherty dies at 53: what was the cause of death?
The actress, best known for starring in Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, has passed away following a long illness.
Actress Shannen Doherty has died at the age of 53 after a long fight against cancer, her publicist Leslie Sloane has told People magazine.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Sloane said on Sunday.
Doherty’s near decade-long cancer battle
Doherty, best known for her roles in Beverly Hills 90210 (1990-1994) and Charmed (1998-2001), was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Although she had gone into remission, she revealed to Good Morning America the illness had returned in 2017.
Despite having stage 4 cancer, the most advanced stage of the disease, she continued to work sporadically, appearing in a reboot of Beverly Hills 90210 in 2019.
Earlier in her career, she had also dipped into reality television, taking part in Dancing with the Stars and starring in Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty, in which she helped people get out of unhappy relationships.
