‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ star blames “political agenda” among critics for negative reviews

¡Shazam! La furia de los dioses

Actress Marta Milans recently spoke out against the negative reviews accumulated by the newest DC film ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’. The 40-year-old actress believes that critics’ “political agenda” contributed to its low scores.

Milans played Rosa Vasquez, mother to the Shazam family.

“I know that there is a lot of politics involved and a lot of hardcore fans of one side, on the other side, a lot of haters on the internet,” Milans told The Direct. “A lot of critics feel like they have a political agenda rather than actually sitting and watching the film and enjoying it.”

“We’re not trying to push any agenda,” she added. “We’re not trying to prove any point. And I don’t know what it is about, I don’t know if it’s our society nowadays that celebrating fun isn’t good enough.

“A movie that is, you just go and you feel good about it, and you have a good laugh, and you see the Shazamily, that seems to be good enough for some people.”

A step-down

‘Shazam 2′ performed poorly at the box office, bringing in $30 million domestically during its opening weekend, which made it one of the worst openings for a DC film ever.

The movie currently sits at 51 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a B+ on CinemaScore from fans. For reference, the original ‘Shazam’ (2019) scored 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and an A on CinemaScore.

Will there be a ‘Shazam 3′?

While a third ‘Shazam’ film has not been announced, the movie’s post-credit scene did leave the superhero’s future on the big screen open to many different possibilities.

In the scene, Shazam was asked to join the Justice Society, which is a team of superheroes similar to the Justice League.

In the comics, the Justice Society was started by Barry Allen/The Flash and ‘The Flash’ movie hit theaters later this summer.

Though it’s unknown what James Gunn plans to do with the character, ‘Shazam 2′ gave enough hints to suggest that the character will likely return to the big screen, even if it’s not in a third ‘Shazam’.
