Snoop Dogg is eyeing up what Ryan Reynolds was hoping to add to his sporting ventures — the Canadian hockey team, the Ottawa Senators.

The rapper will be going toe to toe in his bid for the team against the Canadian-born actor, who has recently turned an underdog soccer club into a global phenomenon. Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney, bought the North Wales football team Wrexham FC in January 2021.

Snoop making “boss moves”

Snoop himself posted the announcement to his Instagram account.

“Amazing what [Neko Sparks] is trying to do in Ottawa,” the rapper wrote on his Instagram stories. “I’m looking forward to being apart of that ownership team. I WANNA BRING HOCKEY BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY.”

Shortly afterward, Snoop Dogg posted a picture of himself in an old school black NHL jersey with orange embroidering — the one the league sported until 2005.

Boss moves,” Snoop wrote in the caption.

Reynolds vs Snoop

The news follows ESPN’s announcement that Reynolds might buy the team through his affiliation with the Remington Group, a Canada-based investment group.

Now the two celebrities face-off in a bidding war to acquire the hockey club.

Owning a sports franchise will be new to Snoop, but he has a long history of being an avid sports enthusiast.

Founder of the Snoop Youth Football League, established in 2005, Snoop has a big hand in delivering talent such as New England Patriots star JuJu Smith-Schuster and the Kansas City Chiefs’ John Ross to the NFL.

Are the Ottawa Senators a good hockey team?

The Sens joined the NHL in 1992 and have never won a Stanley Cup. They made it to the finals one time in 2007.

In the 2022-2023 season, the team missed the playoffs altogether, which is a frequent occurrence for the team, and placed 10th out of 16 teams in the Eastern Conference of the NHL.

The sale is worth an expected $1 billion, which would be the largest NHL sale ever. The next round of bids are due May 15.
