‘Super Mario Bros Movie’ to surpass $1 billion at box office
Video game adaptation ‘Super Mario Bros Movie’ reaching milestone in fourth week of release
As of this weekend, ‘The Super Mario Bros Movie’ is expected to officially cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office. It is the first release of 2023 to do so, and has dominated both domestic and global charts since its release on April 5.
By Monday, May 1, the movie will have grossed $533 million internationally and nearly $488 million domestically, putting it just over the $1 billion mark.
This milestone makes it the fifth movie to achieve this since COVID began. Other titles on the list are “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Jurassic World Dominion”, and “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
‘Super Mario Bros Movie’ is an animated video game adaptation from Nintendo, and immediately became a hit amongst all demographics. The movie is produced by Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment, and Nintendo.
‘Super Mario Bros Movie’ is fun for all ages
Part of what provoked such high theater turnout for this Nintendo film is its nostalgia: not only are current families and children enjoying the fun, dynamic animated movie - fans of the original video games are also tuning in.
The adaptation stars Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), and Jack Black (Bowser).
For fans of the Mario franchise, the classic adventure plot feels authentic to the original characteristics and playful tone of Nintendo’s video games. Mario and Luigi must save the Mushroom Kingdom by rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser, the Koopa king.
‘Super Mario Bros Movie’ might be available for streaming soon
