Update:

Every movie genre has its masterpieces and its spectacular flops, and Westerns are no exception. For every classic like Stagecoach, High Noon, or Once Upon a Time in the West, there’s a film that crashes and burns. And according to critics, one 2015 release has earned the dubious honor of being “the worst Western in history.”

That title belongs to The Ridiculous 6, the Adam Sandler–led parody he also produced. The movie is so notoriously bad that it holds a 0% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes—a rare and infamous distinction.

Why The Ridiculous 6 became the most hated Western ever

Released on Netflix in 2015, the film follows an outlaw raised by Native Americans who teams up with his five half‑brothers for a chaotic quest across the Old West to find their father.

Directed by Frank Coraci—known for his long‑running collaboration with Sandler on comedies like The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and Click—the movie features a stacked cast including Terry Crews, Will Forte, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Nick Nolte, Rob Schneider, Danny Trejo, and Luke Wilson.

Despite the star power, critics tore the film apart almost instantly. Ironically, that brutal reception worked in its favor. The backlash sparked so much curiosity that The Ridiculous 6 broke Netflix’s viewership record within the first 30 days of its release.

Sometimes, a terrible reputation is the best marketing tool.
