This week, TMZ reported that Britney Spears had filed a police report against Damian Smith, director of security for the San Antonio Spurs, following an incident where he hit her in the face after she attempted to get a picture with basketball player Victor Wembanyama.

The Spears-Wembanyama perspectives

According to information from the outlet, the events occurred on Wednesday night, July 5, at the Catch restaurant of the ARIA Hotel, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an interview with ESPN’s Cassidy Hubarth, Wembanyama explained what he believed to have happened, including saying that someone had “grabbed” him.

“I didn’t know for a couple hours, but when I came back to the hotel...I thought it was no big deal, and then the security of the Spurs told me it was Britney Spears,” Wembanyama said. “At first, I was like, ‘You’re joking,’ but yeah, it turns out it was Britney Spears. I never saw her face. I just kept walking straight.”

However, a video obtained by TMZ shows the moment of the incident and refutes the version of the NBA player, since Spears only appears to touch him lightly before being struck.

In the video taken with a cell phone, the singer can be seen approaching the San Antonio Spurs player from behind. “Excuse me, sir,” says Spears. Moments later, bodyguard Damian Smith puts his arm into her face.

In the video you can hear the people who were with the singer exclaiming in shock. Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, who witnessed the incident and is seen in the video wearing a black and white patterned shirt, then runs up to Smith. Shortly after, according to images obtained by TMZ, the “Toxic” singer was seen sitting calmly in the restaurant. However, a witness claimed Spears was “super pissed.”

On social media, Spears said that she was “not prepared” for what happened, pointing out that she simply “touched” the basketball star to try to take a photo with him and that she did not “grab” him, as he claimed.

Despite Spears filing an assault report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the department announced that it had decided not to pursue criminal charges against Smith following the conclusion of an investigation.
