Usher was in charge of rocking Allegiant Stadium at the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show. The R&B star was joined by special guests Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Lil Jon as he performed the record-breaking set. However, many people, despite the general euphoria, were left disappointed as they hoped Justin Bieber, who was in attendance at the game, would appear on stage.

Prior to Sunday’s event, rumours swirled that the two would indeed share the limelight for the interval’s entertainment. However, the hopes and dreams of expectant fans were dashed as the Baby singer remained in one of the suites with Hailey during Usher’s performance.

Usher wanted Bieber on stage

A source told Page Six that Usher did everything he could to try to persuade Bieber and wanted to create a moment that paid tribute to their history together. However, Justin declined. Another insider told the outlet that there was no hard feelings between the two and that the Canadian singer simply wasn’t ready for a return. The last time he performed was this year, but he had been out for nearly a year before that.

Although Bieber did not join Usher on stage, the singer was captured enjoying the show at Allegiant Stadium and he shared a message for his mentor on social media, who received a mixed reaction for his performance.

The relationship between Justin Bieber and Usher

The two artists have had a close relationship for years, as Usher was instrumental in making Justin Bieber a star by mentoring him along with manager Scooter Braun, who discovered the Canadian singer on YouTube.

Usher reportedly acted as Justin’s mentor after the Canadian signed his record deal. Such a deal apparently came about with the help of the R&B singer, who was already close friends with Island Records head L.A. Reid.

The relationship between the two continued to strengthen, and they even collaborated on the song Somebody To Love. They also appeared together at the 2011 Grammys. Although the two drifted apart after Bieber got into trouble with the law, Usher was invited to Justin’s wedding, and the pair also shared some time on vacation in each other’s company.
