Tyler Christopher death: General Hospital actor’s cause of death revealed
The 50-year-old actor was found dead by a friend in his San Diego apartment on 31 October. The Medical Examiner’s Office has released details of the autopsy which ‘TMZ’ has had access to.
Early last November, the sad news broke of the death of Tyler Christopher, one of the stars of legendary television series General Hospital. He was aged just 50. The new shocked the acting world - a community which in recent months has seen a number of stars passing away and is still mourning the death of David Gail, who appeared in Beverly Hills, 90210.
Now, almost three months after Christopher’s passed away, the cause of his death has come to light. American portal TMZ gained access to the autopsy report. According to the report from the Medical Examiner’s Office, the television star died from positional asphyxiation due to acute alcohol poisoning, which means that he suffocated due to the position he was in when he was drunk.
A contributing factor: coronary artery atherosclerosis
Additionally, a contributing factor is listed in the report, coronary artery atherosclerosis, which is the buildup of plaque within the arteries, which can clog arteries and cause problems throughout the body. All of this has led the Medical Examiner’s Office to consider that it was an accidental death.
His co-star, Maurice Benard, who broke the tragic news, noted that Tyler was a “truly talented person who lit up the screen in every scene he played and enjoyed bringing joy to his loyal followers through his performance.”
The late actor appeared in over 1,100 episodes of General Hospital, where he achieved fame and renown, and who has also participated in other productions such as Super Volcano, Ice Storm and Thor: God of Thunder.
